Sumac Centre is a retreat centre situated on 233 hectares of Canadian Shield, approximately one hour north of Kingston. Sumac can comfortably accommodate 16 guests in 8 bedrooms. Everyone is welcome at Sumac, they especially enjoy hosting groups who share their commitment to to dialogue, contemplation, action and fun that contributes to the healing of the planet and a fair deal for all living creatures.

The main level is barrier-free and consists of a mudroom, a cloakroom, a fully-equipped kitchen, an expandable dining area, a sitting area, a bedroom with access to a bathroom equipped with hand rails and wheelchair-accessible shower, and a large screened porch with a barbeque. The private  quarters of the director are also on this level. The upper level consists of 7 bedrooms, a lounge/conference room with kitchenette, a small quiet room and a large screened porch.  All of the bedrooms can be set up with either two twin-size beds or one king-size bed. Bedrooms numbered 2 - 7 are grouped in pairs with 2 bedrooms sharing a toilet and shower. Each bedroom has a sink. Bedroom number 1 has a private bathroom including a shower/tub to accommodate longer-term guests.

High speed internet is available.

The property is a mixture of forest, meadows, beaver ponds, wetlands and a small private lake. There is a great variety of trees and wildflowers. There are also many species of wildlife including deer, black bears, wolves, coyotes, lynx, beavers, otters, cougars, foxes, moose, elk, turtles, wild turkeys and other species of birds both water and forest. The lake is home to a pair of returning loons. The predominant fish in the lake is Northern Pike.

 

A number of trails have been created for hikers to enjoy the bio-diversity of the property. One of these trails leads to another lake on which Sumac owns a small portion of the shoreline.
